Hot Topic is taking band tees off the wall and bringing them center stage.

The retailer is launching Hot Topic Live, a new music performance series filmed inside a custom-built studio at its Hollywood flagship store. First up is Pierce the Veil, the San Diego rock band whose longstanding relationship with the retailer makes it a perfect fit to launch the series.

The band’s exclusive performance will be available on Hot Topic’s YouTube channel, with additional clips rolling out across the brand’s social media pages.

Hot Topic Live is approaching this series differently than a traditional concert stage. Instead, the set takes inspiration from the retailer itself, with rows of band T-shirts providing a backdrop familiar to generations of alternative music fans and Hot Topic shoppers. The idea is to bring the energy of an intimate in-store performance to fans watching online, while giving artists a space to play original music and share more about the stories behind it.

“We’re excited to kick things off as the first band to perform for Hot Topic Live,” Pierce the Veil frontman Vic Fuentes said in an exclusive statement to Billboard. “Our band has grown up with Hot Topic since the very beginning, so it’s really cool to see them create a new space for alternative artists like us to bring our songs to life for the fans.”

Fuentes added that the performance felt intimate and that the atmosphere in the studio was “fun and loose,” praising the production team for its work bringing the session to life.

For Pierce the Veil, the partnership brings together two names with deep roots in alternative culture. The band has steadily built a devoted following since emerging in the early 2000s, with its emotionally charged blend of post-hardcore and alternative rock helping it connect with multiple generations of fans. Its 2023 album, The Jaws of Life, debuted at No. 14 on the Billboard 200, maintaining that crucial presence the band holds in the rock scene.

Hot Topic Live also promotes the mission that the retailer holds, wanting to expand its role in music beyond just selling shirts that fans wear to shows. The series will feature established and emerging artists across genres, with each session built around performances of original songs and additional content designed for social media.

That includes Hot Minute, a rapid-fire Q&A; My First Band Tee, which invites artists to reflect on their first band T-shirts; and Behind the Tee Wall, a conversation about their music and what’s ahead.
