Julie’s Diner Special…..
Momma Gail’s Country Fried Steak…
The whole family enjoyed this and would all volunteer to help Momma cook this. The recipe is easy and really done from memory. I made this a lot for my family too.
I buy cubed steak they come at least 2 in a pack, this recipe is one I do in my head and is super simple and very southern!
I use self rising flour pour it into a bowl or pie plate, then add to taste, salt and pepper. I have used garlic and onion powder or even season salt. That’s the beauty of this you can try any of your favorite spices and make it really your own.
Then eggs you will need at least 2 for 2 cubed steaks I would add 1 for each additional steak. Lightly beat the eggs. For 4 steaks I would use 4 or 5 eggs depending on the size of your eggs and your steaks.
Pour vegetable oil into your heavy bottom skillet. Just enough to come up ½ ways to your steaks. Heat to medium high..
While that is heating up get your steaks ready…
Dredge your steak into the flour mixture then the egg. Then back into the flour. Then we start cooking… 1st make sure your oil is ready by sprinkling a small bit of flour into the oil… if it sizzles it’s ready… start cooking
I usually cook 2 at a time, depending on the size of your pan
I cook them over medium high heat, you know they are ready when you poke them and it runs clear and they look a beautiful golden brown.. Drain on a wire rack then enjoy
I usually make mashed potatoes, green beans and biscuits…. J
