I promised to let you know about some new and upcoming Christmas Album offerings that were coming out, so I’ll make good on it with a few I didn’t mention on the show. Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram (@jockburgess) and like the Afternoons with Jock Facebook Page. By the way, we’re cranking up Christmas music on 979WVOK beginning on the day after Thanksgiving this year which is November 27th. Can we call it Black Friday this year since it isn’t really going to be the normal chaos? Anyway, our Christmas Music is presented by Temp Force.
A BEN RECTOR CHRISTMAS- BEN RECTOR
First, we mentioned Ben Rector and his new “The Thanksgiving Song” you’ll be hearing leading up to the holiday here on 979WVOK. It is off of his new Christmas album coming out November 13th. Find out more at benrectormusic.com
A VERY TRAINOR CHRISTMAS- MEGHAN TRAINOR
Meghan Trainor releases her first full-length Christmas album. It has some classics, newer standards, and some originals. It’s available now.
IT’S CHRISTMAS ALL OVER- GOO GOO DOLLS
An unexpected Christmas album from the Dolls with classics and a couple of originals titled, “This Is Christmas” and “You Ain’t Getting Nothing”. they also re-released their song “Better Days” which has been coupled with Christmas over the years, but it is sung by a young child. It’s available now.
A DRUMMER BOY CHRISTMAS- FOR KING AND COUNTRY
The last album I purchased from these guys was their live Christmas album. I loved the version of “Drummer Boy” on it. It had a lot of energy behind it. You’ll get a more polished, but still good version of the song here and lots of others. “Heavenly Hosts” and “The Carol of Joseph” look to be originals though I could be wrong. I love the way their voices play off each other and typically the production itself. The album is available now.
THE CHRISTMAS ALBUM- LESLIE ODOM JR.
A pretty good R and B album. I came across Odom’s contribution to the season as I was looking for new Christmas albums. I like it! It’s available now.
HOPE HAS A NAME- PASSION
The musicians from the Passion Worship camp released a short album of mostly original songs with a couple of reworked traditional songs to turn our attention to the arrival of Jesus to start His work. Get it now.
MIRACLE OF LOVE- CHRIS TOMLIN
If you are familiar with the Passion folks above, then you’ll know Chris Tomlin. He was front and center with them for many years and I believe still works with them on occasion. He has released a short album as well of mostly originals and a couple of traditional songs. The subtitle is “Christmas Songs of Worship”, so it will too be focused mainly on celebrating Jesus Christ’s birth. Good stuff and also available now.
There are some others I didn’t get too, including one from Matt Nathanson that’s pretty good. This should get you started if you’re always looking to tweak your Christmas favorites with something new. -Jock
